Innovative finance for mine action

Over 5,000 people are killed or injured each year by landmines and other explosive remains, and hundreds of thousands of square kilometres of land remain unusable due to mine contamination.

As such, mine and explosive remnants of war contamination continues to pose a considerable humanitarian and development threat to affected countries.

Reducing this burden quickly and effectively requires significantly more funding and possibly different funding structures to incentivize more efficient mine clearance.

This report by Social Finance and The HALO Trust outlines the potential of innovative finance to fund and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of all stages of mine action, from mine clearance through to restoration of economic and social activity.
